The Campaign
This year, the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) is kicking off Parent Engagement Month with a campaign
for Title I schools and parents to renew their commitment to work together and improve the learning opportunities
for students at school and at home. The “I Can Play a Role” Campaign was launched with a celebration at the state
capitol on October 20th with the First Lady of Georgia, the State School Superintendent and various state leaders
and agencies. A video of this celebration will be available online by the end of October. This campaign is an engaging
way for everyone to come together around the common purpose of improving student achievement. To participate in
the campaign and support their child’s school, parents can select 15 different “I Can Play a Role” pledge cards to get
involved in their child’s education. Parent involvement is not one size fits all. Meaningful parent involvement allows
parents to use their time and talents to support their child and the school through individualized opportunities. These
pledge cards provide schools and community groups with various ideas to encourage parent engagement. There are
many different ways that parents can be involved in their child’s education. What can you do?

The Pledge
The “I Can Play a Role” pledge cards not only provide parents with different, concrete ways to be involved in their
child’s education but also an opportunity to measure the impact of parent engagement. You can encourage parents
to select one card that is the best match or choose multiple cards to get involved in different ways. The pledge cards
will be available to download from the GaDOE’s Parent Engagement Program website or parents can also complete
their pledge online. After downloading pledge cards, you can use them during school events, community celebrations
or district activities throughout November. Families will participate by completing their cards and returning them to
you. At the end of the month, you should report the total number of pledge cards that you collected to the GaDOE.
Our goal is to reach 50,000 total parent pledge cards to impact family engagement and student achievement in
Georgia!
